Thoothukudi, Oct. 21 —
Every year on October 21, Police Commemoration Day is observed across the country to honour the sacrifices of police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

On this occasion, a police parade is conducted, and two minutes of silence are observed nationwide to pay tribute to the martyrs.

The observance dates back to October 21, 1954, when Assistant Sub-Inspector Karam Singh and ten CRPF personnel were killed in an attack by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh, situated at an altitude of 16,000 feet. In memory of their supreme sacrifice, the day has since been commemorated annually as Police Commemoration Day.

In Thoothukudi, today (21.10.2025, Tuesday) at 7.45 a.m., the Police Commemoration Day event was held at the South Police Station (Thenpakam). The ceremony honoured the memory of brave police personnel who lost their lives in service.

Thoothukudi Superintendent of Police, Mr. Albert John, IPS, led the tribute, administered the pledge of remembrance, and offered gun salutes in honour of the martyrs.
